Lois Davis Talks About Coming Closer to God

Services in the Laurelbrook Seventh-day Adventist Church on May 18, 2019 began with a song service led by Gustavo (junior), Luis (junior), and Christopher (freshman), accompanied by Leilani (junior) on the piano.   The opening song was “Trust and Obey”. Lois Davis welcomed everyone. Haydee (junior) had prayer and read the scripture reading.

Denisse (junior) then read a mission story about a couple from Argentina whose son and daughter were born in the closed country far from home where they worked.  Their two children helped them witness as they made their way through life in that country.

She then called for the Laurelbrook Missions Offering, which was collected by Gustavo (junior) and Asher (sophomore). Mahary (junior) and five of her fellow juniors sang for special music, accompanied by Asher (sophomore) on the piano.

Lois Davis had the theme talk. She then had the closing prayer and announced the classes.   Students met behind the glass for their Sabbath School class. Rich Sutton taught the student Sabbath School class.   Rodney Herra taught the Sabbath School class in the church sanctuary.

Following are some notes on the theme talk:

  1. Jesus is our very best friend, but the friends you made here you should keep in touch with.
  2. Be there for your friend, and he/she will be there for you.
  3. Baptism brings a blessing to those who witness it.
  4. Baptism is a public declaration of a person’s determination to be a part of the heavenly royal family. We should use everything we have to draw people closer to the Lord.
  5. Baptism also means that we come out of the world to be closer to God.
  6. Baptism means that that person is sealed by God with God’s signature placed upon that person.
  7. It is possible to get our names erased from the Lamb’s Book of Life.
  8. The Old Covenant was given at Sinai in smoke and fire with God’s voice booming over the desert. The Ten Commandments were given as a guideline to the way to serve God.
  9. The people responded with the assurance that they would obey God, only to break that promise 40 days later.
  10. God wants us to obey Him.
  11. God chose to give us the New Covenant – the covenant of grace.  He still wants us to obey, but Jesus came to give us life more abundantly.  But we should not take Jesus’ intercession as an excuse to sin.
  12. Exodus 24:7 “And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient.”
  13. God likes that determination, but He wants this to be 24/7.
  14. All day long, every day of the year we will do what God says.
