David Smith Discusses Love

Sabbath services on February 3, 2018 began with a song service led by Abril and Leilani (sophomores) and Sarah (senior), accompanied by Jeremy Westcott on the piano.  The opening song was “Tis Love That Makes Us Happy”. David Smith welcomed everyone and had prayer.

Elena (9th grader) read the scripture reading – John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Benny (9th grader) then read about a stewardess who attended three churches on Sunday. After one church service, she found an announcement of some Adventist meetings.  She was baptized and asked for Saturdays off. When she sent a resignation letter to a company official, that person threw the letter in the trash and granted Saturdays off and a pay raise.  Eventually she recommitted her life to the Lord and asked the pastor for Bible studies. She turned the studies into meetings.  This eventually resulted in a house church and her becoming a missionary to dark areas.

Benny then called for the Laurelbrook Missions Offering, which was collected by CJ and Asher (9th graders) and which goes to support Laurelbrook mission trips.

David Smith had the superintendent’s remarks on love.  David Smith then announced the classes and had the closing prayer.

The congregation then became four Sabbath School classes, one in the CNA House taught by Ricardo Reid, and one in the nursing home taught by Rich Sutton (meeting this week at the Suttons residence due to the cold and flu epidemic), and one in the back of the sanctuary “behind the glass” taught by Elizabeth Castle.

Following are a few notes from the theme talk:

1. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
2. We need to keep in contact with Jesus constantly to keep the sickness of sin away.
