Ricardo Reid Talks About Christ and Our Sins

                                                                                                               AUDIO

The Laurelbrook Seventh-day Adventist Church service on April 21, 2018 began with Heissel (sophomore) having the Ministry Corner. Jissel (sophomore) reported on Thursday’s outreach to another nursing home. Rich Sutton welcomed everyone and made a few announcements. Dinner at the cafeteria is available to all today. The senior class is heading to Mexico. Ladies prayer group will be meeting at 8:30.

Samantha (sophomore) played an introit. The congregation had a silent invocation and then sang “I Gave My Life for Thee”.  Ricardo Reid had the main prayer; the congregation responded with “Hear Our Prayer, O Lord”.

Sarah (senior) then called for the offering.  Hiram and Eric (juniors) collected the morning offerings; the loose offering went to the local church budget.  The congregation sang the doxology, and Sarah prayed for the offering.

Mariangela (sophomores) told the children a story.  Rachel (junior) then read Luke 22:18-20 “18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. 19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake [it], and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. 20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup [is] the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.”  Ariel Joubert sang “Be Thou My Vision” with Eric (junior) accompanying her on his guitar for special music.

Ricardo Reid discussed the topic “This Is My Body, This Is My Blood”. The congregation then split up for the foot washing service, the men in the boys’ dorm and the women in the church lobby.

The congregation then took part in the two sections of the Lord’s Supper – the bread and the grape juice. Rich Sutton and Ricardo Reid ministered at the communion table.  Deacons Eric (junior), Clifton Brandt, Daryll Ellis, and Hiram (junior) distributed the bread and the grape juice. The congregation sang “Redeemed” and quietly left the sanctuary.

Following are some notes on the sermon by Ricardo Reid:

  1. God is a God of Love who wants to communicate with mankind.  Overall the Bible, a communication between God and humans, came into being. Jesus speaks with us through His Word when we asked that this happens.
  2. Everyone is a sinner.
  3. When Jesus was preparing His disciples for the Lord’s Supper, He focused attention on Himself. As the disciples looked, they came close together and close to God despite themselves. Then they were ready for the Lord’s Supper.
  4. We sense a deep humility when we compare ourselves with Christ.
  5. Luke 22:7-12  “7 ¶ Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed. 8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat. 9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare? 10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in. 11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? 12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.”
  6. Peter and John were shown that Jesus know the future. Jesus prepared the atmosphere for the Lord’s Supper. He does this today when we celebrate the Lord’s Supper.
  7. Luke 22:13-15 “13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover. 14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. 15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:”
  8. Jesus had a great desire to eat with His disciples – and us today.
  9. Luke 22:16 “For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”
  10. Note the connection with heaven.
  11. Revelation 19:9 “And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed [are] they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.”
  12. Very soon we will eat with Jesus in heaven – today is a foretaste of that occasion.
  13. Are you preparing for this occasion?   We must be purified and made clean.
  14. Luke 22:17-19 “17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide [it] among yourselves: 18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. 19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake [it], and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.”
  15. 1 Peter 2:21-23 “21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed [himself] to him that judgeth righteously:”
  16. 1 Peter 2:24 “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”
  17. Jesus is the Shepherd of your souls.  Keep your eyes on Jesus because He bore our sins on the Cross and enables us to die to sin and forsake our sinful ways.
  18. No matter what sins or struggles you have, Jesus has borne it already and will pardon our sins and subdue our sinful ways.
  19. Micah 7:18-20 “18 Who [is] a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth [in] mercy. 19 He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. 20 Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, [and] the mercy to Abraham, which thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old.”
  20. Exodus 12:7-8 “7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike [it] on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. 8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; [and] with bitter [herbs] they shall eat it.”
  21. Exodus 12:11-12 “11 And thus shall ye eat it; [with] your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it [is] the LORD’S passover. 12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I [am] the LORD.”
  22. When the blood of Jesus in on our hearts, we become pure in the sight of God.
  23. Wine = the blood of Jesus.
  24. Acts 1:12-14 “12 ¶ Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey. 13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James [the son] of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas [the brother] of James. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
  25. Jesus sought to unite His disciples and prepare them for the Holy Spirit.
  26. The Holy Spirit did come to the disciples.
  27. Jesus always has the bigger picture, the work that God wants to do for His people with His Holy Spirit.
  28. Zechariah 10:1 “Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; [so] the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.”
  29. Joel 2:23 “Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first [month].”
  30. Rain symbolizes the outpouring of the Holy Spirit – the former was Pentecost, the latter at the End of Time much more powerful.
  31. When the disciples composed their differences and united in prayer, the Former Rain came.
  32. When the Latter Rain is poured out, Jesus come to harvest those who are close to Him and go to heaven to the marriage supper of the Lamb.
  33. Ellen White says that the closing gospel work will close with great power.  Repent and be converted.
  34. If you are ready, you are sealed already to take the gospel to the world.  Communion purifies us for this work.
  35. You should be growing in Christ so Jesus can finish growing you and can come.
  36. Luke 22:19-20 “19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake [it], and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. 20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup [is] the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.”
  37. Communion prepares us for the experiences given us before Jesus comes.
