The Laurelbrook Seventh-day Adventist Church service on September 29, 2018 began with Clayton Brandt and Rodney Herra welcoming everyone and making a few announcements. From now on, the people on the platform and the deacons will come in while “The Lord Is In His Holy Temple” is being played. The congregation will kneel. There will be a spoken invocation.
Felix (junior) played an introit. Nathan Polk had a spoken invocation. Everyone then sang “Jesus Is Coming Again”. Clayton Brandt had the main prayer; the congregation responded with “Hear Our Prayer, O Lord”.
Eric(senior) then called for the offering. Sebastian Roy-Lavallee and Brayen (junior) collected the offerings. Ernesto (junior) played a flute solo during the offering collection. The congregation sang the doxology, and prayer was offered for the offering.
Saul (junior) told the children a story. Clayton Brandt then read 1 Thessalonians 4:16 “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:” Yzzynne (9th grader) sang, assisted by Kate Swanepoel (vocal), and Eric (senior) on the guitar for special music.
Nathan Polk discussed the topic “The Blessed Hope” [Jesus’ Second Coming]. At the end of his sermon, he called to the platform all those present who had either expressed a wish to be baptized or wished to recommit their lives to Jesus Friday evening (16 or 17 had done so but only about eight were present at the church service). He then extended a second call – and seven more adults and students made the same commitment).
The Arce family then sang “Troublous Times Are Here”, a song written by the former owner of the property where the Laurelbrook church building stands (the back section of the church auditorium used to be his print shop). Rich Sutton and the elders then had a special prayer for Nathan Polk as he headed back to Weimar after the Week of Prayer.
