Clayton Brandt Talked About Really Seeing God

Laurelbrook’s church service on December 28, 2019 began with a welcome by Rodney Herra. He called those who were going on the mission trip to Honduras to the platform and had prayer.

Leilani (senior) played a musical introduction for the service. Clayton Brandt had the invocation.  The congregation sang “I Will Sing of Jesus’ Love”.  Rodney Herra had the Morning Prayer; the congregation sang “Hear Our Prayer, O Lord”.

Rodney Herra announced the time for the church offerings had come. Daryll Ellis and Jafet (sophomore) collected the tithes and offerings.  Any money not designated for a particular purpose went toward the local church budget. The congregation sang “Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow”. Kelly (sophomore) prayed for the offerings.

Rodney Herra told the children a story about an experience at age five.  His father got his back messed up so no money was coming in. The day of the Christmas program the family came home to find his dad’s pickup filled with presents. There were clothes for each of eight children. Unknown to this day is the person who gave the family those presents.

Clayton and Cliifton Brandt sang “Ten Thousand Angels” as a vocal duet for special music. Ivana (sophomore) read the scripture reading – John 1:43-46 “43 ¶ The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. 44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. 46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.”

Clayton Brandt had the sermon. The congregation sang “I’ve Found a Friend”. Clayton Brandt had the closing prayer.

Following are some notes on the sermon:

  1.  Note that Philip said to come and see.
  2. It is our privilege to know God now as best we can.]
  3. John 6:40 “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
  4. “Seeth” – continual and earnest inspection.  Bible, nature, and inspiration helps us see God.
  5. God has placed in humans a desire to see God to help humans seek Him.
  6. The universe is huge. Our section of this universe is tiny.
  7. After sin is destroyed, the saved from this earth will be closer to God than any other beings in the universe.
  8. Like his Redeemer, John’s character combined strength and tenderness.
  9. Satan tries everything to divert our attention from Jesus.
  10. Jesus sailed like a cloud above the world of sin and violence.
  11. God will be waiting at heaven’s gates to welcome the redeemed He loves us so much.
  12. Heaven begins with rest on earth provided by Christ.
  13. The more we know God the more intense our desire to know Him.
