Boys' Dorm Puts on Sabbath School Program
.

Sabbath services on August 12, 2017 began with a song service led by Jara (sophomore), Josia (senior), and Eric (junior), accompanied by Samantha (sophomore) on the piano.  The opening song was “Shall We Gather at the River”. Ricardo Reid welcomed everyone and had prayer.

Eric (junior) read the scripture reading –  Ephesians 6:10-13 “10 ¶ Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places]. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

Eric (junior) then read a mission story from northeast India. Felix (9th grader) then called for the Laurelbrook Missions Offering, which was collected by Oliver (junior) and Larry (9th grader) and which goes to support Laurelbrook mission trips.  The boys’ dorm then sang “All to Jesus I Surrender”.

Ricardo Reid had the superintendent’s remarks on the Great Controversy.  Ricardo Reid then announced the classes and had the closing prayer.

The congregation then became two Sabbath School classes, one taught by Clifton Brandt in the church sanctuary and one in the back of the sanctuary “behind the glass” taught by Rodney Herra.

Following are a few notes from the theme talk:
  1. All humanity is involved in a spiritual war or battle regarding the character of God.
  2. The conflict started in heaven with Lucifer (Satan), who led into rebellion a portion of the angels.
  3. Sin was introduced into our world when Satan led Adam and Eve into sin.
  4. Each of us are part of this conflict between Satan and God. Angels are watching to see who will help God win.
  5. God sends the Holy Spirit and His loyal angels to guide and protect His people from evil angels.
  6. In Ephesians, Paul told the church that disunity and impurity will destroy the church. Satan is trying to prevent God from reproducing His character in His church.
  7. Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].”
  8. The Christian is engaged in a constant war with eternal stakes involved. He/she must be ready for this conflict every day.
  9. But Christ’s victory is ours. The communion service is a reminder of Christ’s death. The Holy Spirit comes to communion to strengthen believers and help them celebrate Christ’s victory.
