2017 Alumni Weekend - An Overall View

Laurelbrook's 2017 Alumni Weekend took place April 7 to 9.  It began with a Friday evening vespers with five speakers - Cynthia (Leader) Busche ('77), Denise Huckabee ('97), Pam Page Wahl ('77), and, as a special treat, Bonnie Evans, a member of the first group of Laurelbrook teachers.

The next morning Sabbath School was the first service with a traditional program focusing on missions. Janelle Bradford Smalley ('77) taught the Sabbath School lesson.

After a short intermission, Ron, Sharon, and Becky Oxentenko called the roll of the honor classes, noting a few items about each class.  There followed a moment of silence for those who had died.  Charles Sarr, a former Laurelbrook music teacher, led the singing of the school song.

The church service followed with Bill Cash ('67) as the principal speaker, emphasizing the role that our past plays in our present and future activities. Instead of the main offering going towards alumni association expenses, it went towards the creation of a Pioneer Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of Mrs. Ruthie Zollinger and to assist needy Laurelbrook students.

Supper came at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria, followed by a hay ride out to the Picnic Pavillion for vespers. Ron Oxentenko ('85) made a presentation.  After vespers, the group returned to the auditorium for the traditional evening of foods and auction.

Sunday morning began with a traditional alumni breakfast in the cafeteria followed by an alumni association business meeting.
