Chanai Delbridge Talks About a Holy War

Sabbath services on February 25, 2017 began with a song service led by Ricardo Reid and Dyaine (junior), accompanied on the piano by Jacqueline Miller. The opening song was “Faith Is the Victory”.   Chanai Delbridge welcomed everyone.

Camila (senior) had prayer and read Ephessians 6:11-17 “11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places]. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”

Keren (senior) read a mission story from Norway. Karla (senior) then called for the Laurelbrook Missions Offering, which was collected by Mark (9th grader) and Blake (junior).

Chanai Delbridge had the superintendent’s remarks on “Holy War”.  She then had closing prayer.  The congregation then became two Sabbath School classes, one taught by Clayton Brandt in the church sanctuary and one taught by Bob Gustafson “behind the glass” in the church for the students.
Some students were not present but attended EASEA’s Music Festival held at Heritage Academy near Crossville, TN. The group then sang in the Apison Seventh-day Adventist Church on Friday evening and another church Sabbath morning.
Following are a few notes from the theme talk by Chanai Delbridge:
  1. Revelation 12:12 “Therefore rejoice, [ye] heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.”
  2. Our lusts come from the old “spiritual” person that we have to conquer to be a Christian.
  3. Our enemy is Satan, the ultimate ruler of dark forces in this world.
  4. James 4:1 “From whence [come] wars and fightings among you? [come they] not hence, [even] of your lusts that war in your members?”
  5. Self is our ultimate enemy. It will stoop to any level to get what it wants.
  6. The Holy Spirit is the Christian’s early warning system, warning us that self is launching another offensive.
  7. 2 Timothy 2:3-4 “3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of [this] life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.”
  8. We need to declare war on self and enter into a genuine battle with self.
  9. Many Christians today are Christian civilians who don’t want to go to war against self, preferring to stay away from the conflict.
  10. Holy war is the only way to defeat self.  No person can be neutral in this conflict. Now is the time to defeat self.
