James and Nancy Brenneman Talk About October 22
.

Sabbath services on October 22, 2016 began with a song service led by James Brenneman, accompanied by Penny Thomas on the piano. The opening song was “Lift Up the Trumpet”. Nancy Brenneman welcomed everyone and had prayer.

James Brenneman then told about his experience in Malawi, Africa with a meeting on the mission airfield where the country’s president announced that most of the mission land would be confiscated by the government because a mission person from Rhodesia ran a bulldozer through a garden illegally placed on mission land.

Nancy Brenneman then called for the Laurelbrook Missions Offering, which was collected by Rich Sutton and Bob Gustafson and which goes to support Laurelbrook mission trips. Nancy Brenneman then prayed for the offering.  The congregation then sang “I’m But a Stranger Here” for special music.

James and Nancy Brenneman had the superintendent’s remarks on the significance of October 22.  172 years ago William Miller and others who believed in the Second Coming of Christ looked for Him to return on this particular day.  It was a catastrophic event when they realized that Christ wasn’t returning on that day.  But they picked up the pieces and eventually organized the Seventh-day Adventist Church to evangelize the world.

The congregation then became one Sabbath School class taught by Rich Sutton, continuing the study of the book of Job. The few students present went with Bob and Michelle Gustafson to sing to the Laurelbrook Nursing Home residents.
