Rich and Pam Sutton Have Sabbath School

Sabbath services on October 8, 2016 began with a piano introit by Jairit (senior). Hillis Jeffries III led the song service, accompanied by Jairit on the piano and a group of students playing various instruments. The opening song was “My Maker and My King”. Pam Sutton welcomed everyone and read Romans 8:29 “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”

Rich Sutton and Pam Sutton then talked about their Mexico trips. They usually shipped a container to the port of Vera Cruz; part of the cargo was a stack of Bible and Great Controversy books. These books were handed out to church members and Bible study interests.  A few years ago the Mexican members received a trainload of Great Controversy books.

Rich Sutton then called for the Laurelbrook Missions Offering, which was collected by Haki (junior) and Sam (senior) and which goes to support Laurelbrook mission trips.  The women of the congregation sang “Be Thou My Vision” for special music.

Rich Sutton had the superintendent’s remarks on the topic “To Be Determined”. The congregation then sang “Immortal, Invisible”.  The congregation then divided into four classes for the Sabbath School lesson, one taught by Clayton Brandt in the church sanctuary, one taught at the back of the sanctuary “behind the glass” by Bob and Michelle Gustafson, one in the CNA building, and one taught in the cafeteria by Hillis Jeffries III.
Following are a few notes from the theme talk:
  1. Who makes the decisions for you? Who determines your future?
  2. Many times circumstances or people guide us, but God is the best guide for the future.
  3. Romans 8:29 “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”
  4. Ephesians 1:5 “Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,”
  5. Ephesians 1:11 “In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:”
  6. Do we have our own choice?  Yes, but God wants us to follow Christ.
  7. 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
  8. We are created to live forever, not to wear out.
  9. It’s our choice whether to go to heaven or not, but God predestines us all to go to heaven.
  10. We need to keep our end in mind – to stand on the Sea of Glass in heaven.
